Info for the 2025-26 Season

  1. Please review the requirements for each ensemble

  2. The LYSE MAY be split into TWO ENSEMBLES based on the playing ability of the musicians joining us. More on this soon…

  3. If you were in Middle School Honor Band/Orchestra (District or Combined League) last school year, you do NOT need to audition for the LYSE or LYSB. Just sign up!

  4. If you were in High School Honor Band/Orchestra (District or Combined League) or All-State Band/Orchestra, you do NOT need to audition for the LYSO. Just sign up!

  5. If you wish to join the Symphony Orchestra, please review the list of instruments we are auditioning this season. If you do not see your instrument, contact us.

Symphony Orchestra Auditions

All students are expected to prepare two contrasting musical selections. Additionally, you are expected to prepare one major scale and one minor scale covering your full range.

All string players are expected to be proficient at Suzuki Book 6 and above. Wind players should be proficient with music at an All-State Band level.

For the 2025-26 Season

The Longmont Youth Symphony Orchestra auditions the following instruments:

  • Flute/Piccolo

  • Oboe/English Horn

  • Clarinet

  • French Horn

  • Trumpet

  • Violin I/II

  • Viola

  • Cello

  • Bass

Symphonic Band Auditions

All students are expected to prepare one musical selection that demonstrates playing ability. Additionally, you are expected to prepare one major scale covering your full range.

All students should be proficient with music at a Middle School Honor Band level.

The Longmont Youth Symphonic Band auditions the following instruments:

  • Flute/Piccolo

  • Oboe/English Horn

  • Clarinet

  • Bass Clarinet

  • Alto Saxophone

  • Tenor Saxophone

  • Baritone Saxophone

  • Bassoon

  • French Horn

  • Trumpet

  • Trombone

  • Baritone (Euphonium)

  • Tuba

  • Percussion

Strings Ensemble Auditions

All students are expected to prepare one musical selections that demonstrates playing ability. Additionally, you are expected to prepare one major scale covering your full range.

All students are expected to be proficient at Suzuki Books 2-5.

The Longmont Youth Strings Ensemble auditions the following instruments:

  • Violin I/II

  • Viola

  • Cello

  • Bass
