Emily Bowman is an active performing musician and teacher. This is her third season as conductor of the Longmont Junior Youth Symphony. Ms. Bowman is also conducting with Boulder Youth Symphony and teaching with Shepherd Valley Waldorf School and Boulder Suzuki Strings.

Ms. Bowman received her formal training from the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida and the University of Colorado College of Music, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Viola Performance in 1997. She was awarded the Gabor Ormai award for performance upon graduation. Some of her teachers include Erika Eckert, Chauncey Patterson, Dennis Koromzay, Debra Dakin, and William Starr.

Ms. Bowman has conducted student orchestras for the Suzuki Association of Colorado’s Winter Workshop, Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute, Shepherd Valley Waldorf School, Shining Mountain Waldorf School, New Vista High School, and Boulder Suzuki Strings. From 1993-2003, Ms. Bowman coached chamber music, led sectionals, taught composition and performed with the festival orchestra at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Wisconsin.

In addition to conducting and teaching, Ms. Bowman performs as a violist. She is a founding member of the Kythe Quartet, which has performed in cities across the United States, including a residency at the Eccles Center in Park City, Utah. The quartet worked with the members of the Takacs Quartet and the Muir String Quartet, Liz Simkin, Judith Glyde and composers Laurie A. San Martin and Joan Towers. Ms. Bowman currently performs locally with the Eldorado String Quartet and the Shepherd Valley Piano Quartet. Ms. Bowman has played in the viola sections of the Boulder Philharmonic, The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra, the Greeley Philharmonic, and L’Orchesta de San Luis, Argentina.

Ms. Bowman also loves to play the fiddle! She is a member of the group Bog Blossom, a frequent guest of Maggie Simpson’s Acoustic Carnival and often sits in with The Anxious Lawn Chairs.
